A fungus has been found on a Scottish University campus, which was formerly the Craiglockhart Hospital that was used to treat shell-shocked officers during the First World War. Foreign to Scotland, the fungus is relatively common in Europe and is thought to have arrived in the hospital after British troops, who received treatment at the hospital, picked up spores on their feet while tramping through the mud in Flanders.

The fungus has now been accepted and entered into records as a first for Scotland.
