The holiday rental company Airbnb has taken inspiration from some of its more unique listings to create new office space for its 200 employees, making it a better place to work as well as feel more like home.
The 72,000sq ft converted warehouse in San Francisco now includes 8 private meeting rooms and a conference room that has taken inspiration from the war room in Stanley Kubrick’s Dr Strangelove, complete with circular table and overhead lighting.
Joe Gebbia, the co-founder of Airbnb, said ‘We wanted the space to feel like home. Why wouldn’t the office be as comfortable as your home, if you’re going to end up spending the majority of your working life there?’ Other features of the new office space include quirky kitchens and, strangely, a huge bear.
