In the city of Rawalpindi, just south of the capital Islamabad, a suicide bomber rammed his motorbike into a checkpoint near the Pakistani military HQ, killing 10 people including soldiers. More than 20 people were injured, including children.
Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack and said that there will be more attacks on security forces in the near future in an effort to step up their campaign against them. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his cabinet are scheduled to hold a meeting imminently to decide how to respond to the attack.
